As you may know, Shirley is a lecturer at the Edinburgh College of Art and her students have recently started a project in collaboration with Jutexpo, the UK's leading ethical bag supplier.
The undergraduate students are designing a range of bags with an ethical/sustainable focus to be judged competitively, in two categories, by Jutexpo.
Each student is designing a "bag for life" for a charity of their choice.
Durable textiles are a passion for Shirley McLauchlan who's acclaimed hand stitiched goods feature on this web site.
"We're delighted to be working with ECA for the second time on this exciting project. I'm looking forward to some innovative, structured designs that really capture the best aspect of the chosen charities".

Had a great time at the Hampton Court Handmade Fair, meeting lots of interesting people including event organiser Kirstie Allsopp. I was signing copies of Girls Get Stitching, and talking about all sorts of crafty design ideas. We hope it returns next year!

Wow! Amazed and delighted to see how American designer Rachel Ashwell incorporated my blanket commision into Hollywood actress Jessica Simpson's nursery. View all the pictures at US Weekly.
